Rohit Sharma heaps praise on Lasith Malinga, picks him as the biggest match-winner for MI in the last 10 years
Rohit Sharma has picked Lasith Malinga as the best player for Mumbai Indians in the last 10 years. The Sri Lankan pacer called time on an illustrious career after the first ODI against Bangladesh at Colombo
Mumbai Indians skipper and Team India's prolific opener Rohit Sharma has heaped praise on Lasith Malinga and picks him as the biggest match-winner for his IPL franchise. He recently called it quits from International cricket after playing his last ODI against Bangladesh at Colombo on Friday. In his last ODI, the veteran pacer ran through the Bangladesh batting order and finished with figures of 3 for 38 off his 9.4 overs. His performance helped Sri Lanka cruise to a 91 run victory.
Malinga, has been part of the Mumbai Indians side ever since the inception of IPL. Rohit posted a tweet in praise of the pacer. His tweet read, "If I had to pick one match winner among many others for @mipaltan in the last decade, this man will be on top for sure. As a captain he give me breather during tense situation and he never failed to deliver, such was his presence within the team. Best wishes LM for the future."
Malinga had earlier announced his retirement from the longest format of the game in 2011. He represented the island nation in 30 Tests, 226 ODIs and 73 T20Is and has picked up 536 wickets across formats. His toe-crushing yorkers and well disguised slower deliveries gave nightmares even to the best batsmen of his generation. He was also the team's leading wicket-taker in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. He picked up 13 wickets from seven innings and helped Sri Lanka win a crucial encounter against England. He is also the only bowler in the history of ODI cricket to have performed three hat-tricks. He will also be fondly remembered for picking up four wickets in four successive deliveries. He achieved this feat against South Africa in 2007 World Cup.
