Ravindra Jadeja to get Arjuna Award with 19 other sportsmen; Bajrang Punia and Deepa Malik get Khel Ratna
Jadeja was the star for India in the recent semi-finals of the World Cup 2019, with his quickfire 79 almost helping India reach the finals
Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is one of the 19 sportsmen who will receive the Arjuna Award. He was nominated for the prestigious award by the selection committee on Saturday and joins players like Poonam Yadav, Tejinder Pal Singh Toor, Mohammad Anas and Swapna Barman as the recipients of the award.
The BCCI had earlier recommended names of Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Jadeja and Poonam Yadav for the Arjuna Award. The award is given by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in India to honour excellence in sports. In 2018, Indian women's team opener Smriti Mandhana was the only Indian cricketer to get the award.
Jadeja starred in the World Cup 2019 semifinals against New Zealnd recently as he scored 79 in 59 balls. He is also in the top ten in the bowler and the all-rounder's ranking in Test cricket.
Wrestler Punia along with para track and field athlete Deepa Malik will be awarded with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award - the highest sporting award given to a player in India.
