Former Pakistani cricketer Ramiz Raja is against having football-style managers in cricket, and instead urged the sides to allow their captains to have a greater say in the team matters. Warning that managers could only be a disaster, Raja, in his YouTube channel, made it clear that the skippers should have the final say.

In the football style of management, the managers have a greater say than the captain and the coaching staff, and Cricket South Africa recently adopted  this trend for their tour to India later this month. The new manager will report directly to the Acting Director of the board Corrie van Zyl, who will then report to the Chief Executive.

"It's fruitless to have such a massive coaching staff associated with the team because I think, just like cricket back in the day, the role of captain is more important than the coaches," Ramiz said.

"We should not dilute a captain's authority by giving more power to coaches. Running cricket like football will be a disaster because there the role of the manager is more important than the captain because he calls all the shots. But if you try to apply the same in cricket, it will only lead to confusion within the side," he added.
