PCB keen to appoint former player Misbah-ul-Haq as Pakistan's coach as well as chief selector
Misbah is reluctant to join the coaching set-up as he remains unhappy that the PCB has allowed centrally contracted players from Pakistan to play in T20 leagues over the world even as they battle fitness issues.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is eager to get on board former skipper of the Pakistan cricket team Misbah-ul-Haq as the coach-cum-national selector of the senior men's team.
Misbah, who is currently supervising a pre-season conditioning camp, is yet to decide on his future.
"He was not very keen to also supervise the pre-season conditioning camp but Zakir Khan, who is Director International Cricket and an influential figure in the board, convinced Misbah," a well-informed source told PTI.
The source added that Misbah is reluctant to join the coaching set-up as he remains unhappy that the PCB has allowed centrally contracted players from Pakistan to play in T20 leagues over the world even as they battle fitness issues.
"Misbah is aware that some of the players are carrying niggling fitness problems including Fakhar Zaman and Babar Zaman and he felt that the PCB should have called them home after the World Cup and have them undergo a rehab process instead of giving them clearance to play in leagues or in England," the source said.
Misbah is yet to apply for the job of head coach, a position that has been left open after former coach Mickey Arthur was removed on Prime Minister Imran Khan's insistence. The deadline to apply for the post is August 23.
