Mickey Arthur, who was the coach of Pakistan during the World Cup 2019, expressed his hurt after his contract was not renewed. Post a dismal showing, the Pakistan Cricket Board decided to not renew the contracts of South African Arthur, bowling coach Azhar Mahmood, batting coach Grant Flower and trainer Grant Luden in a bid to revamp the national team.

"I am extremely disappointed and hurt," Arthur told AFP shortly after the PCB announced his departure. "I did my wholehearted effort to lift Pakistan cricket," the South African added.

Arthur took up the job as head coach of Pakistan in 2016, after coaching stints in South Africa and Australia. He was eager for an extension, the local media reported.

Arthur was given an extension last year, so he could be in charge of the team during this year's World Cup. His contract was to end on August 15.

Under him, Pakistan won the Champions Trophy in 2017 and also became the number one ranked T20I team. However, they failed to perform as per expectations in Tests, and in the last two years became inconsistent in the 50-over format as well.

Pakistan's next assignment is a home series against Sri Lanka, starting with two Test matches.
