New Zealand women cricketer Amy Satterthwaite, married to teammate Lea Tahuhu, announces pregnancy
New Zealand women cricketer Amy Satterthwaite will get her full salary as she continues to be on maternity leave. She is eyeing a comeback in 2021
The captain of New Zealand's women's cricket team Amy Satterthwaite has announced that she is expecting her first child with teammate Lea Tahuhu early next year. She will become the first player to benefit from the new contract conditions that allows her to get her salary even on maternity leave.
Amy, who is married to Tahuhu, will miss the women's World T20 Cup next year in Australia that starts from February 21 and runs till March 8.
The New Zealand Cricket announced that Amy would take a leave, and under the new agreement, would remain as a centrally contracted player, getting her full annual salary.
"She will be the first player to benefit from the new pregnancy leave provisions included in the new agreement," NZC Chief Executive David White said.
"This means she'll be paid her full retainer throughout and, although possibly fulfilling some off-field contractual obligations, will not be required to train or play."
Amy stated that she and Tahuhu are excited for their new phase, and aims to return for the World Cup that will be held in 2021.
"I am very lucky to have great support from NZC with regard to taking a break from the game to have a family," Satterthwaite said in an NZC statement on Tuesday.
"I feel I still have a lot to give to the game and look forward to working my way back with an eye on the 2021 ICC Women's World Cup held in New Zealand."
