After completion of West Indies series, Team India will face South Africa in home series. The selection committee on Thursday announced the T20 squad against the Proteas and the big name missing from the sheet is former Team India skipper MS Dhoni.

While the BCCI's press communication declaring the squad did not offer any clarity on Dhoni's absence, India's Chairman of selectors MSK Prasad confirmed to India Today that Dhoni has expressed his unavailability for the three T20 matches against South Africa.  "Yes he was unavailable for selection," he said.

The two time World Cup winner has been absent from cricket for the past month and a half following the World Cup in England; spending a fifteen-day stint with Indian territorial army.

Rishab Pant who scored a brisk 42 ball 65 in the last T20 against West Indies gets another opportunity to cement his place in the game's shortest format. India plays 12 T20 internationals in the next five months at home by which time the selectors hope to have narrowed down to a probable squad for the T20 World Cup scheduled for October 2020.
