Mickey Arthur wants Sarfaraz Ahmed to be sacked as Pakistan skipper, suggests alternatives
Pakistan's head coach Mickey Arthur wants PCB to sack Sarfaraz Ahmed as skipper across all three formats to produce better results. He made a presentation to the PCB working committee which left the board unimpressed
Pakistan Cricket coach Mickey Arthur has requested the PCB to sack Sarfaraz Ahmed as captain of the national team as he himself sought two more years to deliver "remarkable results''. According to sources, Mickey Arthur suggested that Shadab Khan should be made captain of the limted over formats whereas Babar Azam should lead the side in Test cricket.
Arthur has been working with the Pakistan side as head coach since 2016. Under him, Pakistan managed to win the ICC Champions Trophy two years back. The side also climbed up to the top of the rankings in T20 cricket. He told the PCB, "I need two more years with the Pakistan team and when I can deliver remarkable results."
Arthur made a presentation to the Committee on the team performances and selection decisions, is said to have left the members unimpressed with his arguments and explanations.
"The members were not satisfied with his argument that after the 2017 Champions Trophy the fielding standards of the Pakistan team went down after the forced exit of fielding coach, Steve Rixon.
Arthur made a big deal out of Rixon's sudden departure in August 2018 as he had issues with the PCB management over delayed payments."
The source further said that after Arthur's presentation, the PCB discussed other options and one of the members suggested Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardena. Then, they found that since he is working with the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, it would be difficult for PCB to lure him with a better package.
The tenure of Mickey Arthur and other members of the support staffs will expire on 15th August.
