Jonty Rhodes has revealed that he knew he would not make the cut as Team India's fielding coach even before the official announcement was made by the BCCI. Earlier, MSK Prasad led national selection committee did not consider South Africa's Jonty Rhodes who applied for the role. They decided to continue with R Sridhar under whom the national side's fielding has grown leaps and bounds.

Jonty Rhodes said, "I am sure my interview was not as good as the incumbent coach because he has been there for the last couple of years. Players have definitely worked with a plan. And you can see the progress as it just doesn't happen. I am expecting that from an interview point of view - he kicked my butt."

The legendary fielder from South Africa also gave the reason as to why he applied for the role of fielding coach for Team India. "As a fielding coach I did a couple of years coaching with the South African team till the 2007 World Cup. Since then, I have only worked in India. I am way more familiar with the cricketing set up in India than I am in South Africa."

Jonty Rhodes did not appear in the top three shortlisted candidates for the fielding coach's role. The MSK Prasad led panel named R Sridhar as the first choice followed by Abhay Sharma and T Dilip. He also said that the number 2 and number 3 positions were more for India A and Under-19 teams. "We don't see Jonty Rhodes fitting in there because these roles are more for India A level and NCA."
