The Indian Cricket Team get new sponsors; Byju's to replace Oppo from September

From September, the Indian cricket team will have the name of Byju's instead of Oppo on their national jerseys, after the Chinese mobile manufacturing company called the deal, which was acquired for Rs. 1079 crore in 2017, "high and unsustainable."

Team India will sport the logo of Oppo for the West Indies tour, which starts from August 3 and runs till September 2. However, for the home series against South Africa from September 15, the team will sport Byju's logo on the front.

In March 2017, Oppo had outbid Vivo, who had bid Rs. 768 crore, and won the team sponsorship rights for a five-year period. However, as it was unsustainable, Byju's will now take over, and will pay the BCCI the same amount till 2022.

Oppo was paying Rs. 4.61 crore per  bilateral match to the BCCI, and Rs. 1.56 crore for a game in an ICC event. This was higher than what STAR would pay the BCCI before 2017 - Rs. 1.92 per bilateral game, and Rs. 61 lakhs for an ICC match.
