Ajinkya Rahane feels that he could solve India's middle-order woes at number four. Here is what he had to say
Ajinkya Rahane, who has been neglected in the shorter versions of the game feels that he could be solve India's batting woes at number four in ODIs. Team India struggled to find the perfect batsmen at that position and failed to make it beyond the semifinals of the ICC World Cup 2019 in spite of having the firepower in all three departments.
Ajinkya Rahane, in his opening address at the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) where he was the chief guest said, "Incidentally, my number (sequence in the prize distribution) here is four… I really enjoy batting at No.4. That's my favorite position."
The Vice Captain of the Test side also felt that it would not be easy for India when they take on West Indies as they are a pretty dangerous side. "We all know that they are a dangerous and unpredictable team. I'm really looking forward to the series against the West Indies."
Rahane is expected to play the first start which begins on August 22nd. "It is important to respect them and play our game as we've been playing, especially in Test cricket. For me, it’s important to give my best. I always focus on contributing for my team and I think I' just going to do my best as well. Once I go there, I will give my 100 percent."
Rahane is currently training under his idol and mentor Rahul Dravid at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Benglauru as it's reaining heavily in Mumbai.
"I'm actually doing my fitness training in Bengaluru because it's raining heavily in Mumbai. I wanted to train outdoors under Rahul Dravid. I always follow him, he is one of my role models. I'm really happy that he's in Bengaluru and am focusing on my fitness as well."
When asked about the ICC World Test Championship, he said, "Yes, it’s definitely something we all are looking forward to. Every Test match and every Test series are special. The best thing about this format is that you get to follow your routines every day. I'm really excited."
