India vs West Indies 1st Test Live Score: WI win toss, opt to bowl first; Ashwin, Rohit overlooked
This is the first game that India is playing in the World Test Championship
The first Test between India and West Indies, which is being held at Antigua, started off 15 minutes late as overnight rain left the pitch damp. Though the pitch was covered, water seeped through, and the umpires decided to delay the start of the game by 15 minutes.
The pitch has some grass, which means that the track will have bounce, and should trouble the batters. The moisture at the ground, ensures that the pacers have a huge role to play upfront, with spinners not getting much help. Keeping that in mind, West Indies won the toss and opted to field first, in a bid to send back the Indian batters early.
India went in without Ravi Ashwin for the game, with Ravindra Jadeja as the lone spinner, while Rohit Sharma was not selected, overlooked for Ajinkya Rahane, who will be eager to put his iffy form behind him.
What the captains said:
Jason Holder - We will field first. Some moisture in the wicket and we want to take advantage. We have had some solid preparations and are looking forward to this. Every series is a new series, need to do our best. We have a new guy, Shamarh Brooks, who makes his Test debut for us.
Virat Kohli: Virat Kohli - We were batting first anyway, look to put runs on the board and then attack with the ball. We know what to do in the middle, need to play consistent good cricket, no room for complacency. Mayank and KL will open in this series. Saha, Rohit, Ashwin, Kuldeep and Umesh are not playing today
