England's Colin Ackermann takes 7 wickets in a county T20 game; records best bowling figures in history
Malaysia's Arul Suppiah had the previous best record in T20s, when he scalped 6 for 5 in 2011
South African spinner and current captain of Leicestershire, Colin Ackermann set a new T20 world record on Wednesday after he claimed seven wickets in only four overs whilst giving away 18 runs against Warwickshire. The 28-year old took the wickets of Michael Burgess, Sam Hain, Will Rhodes, Liam Banks, Alex Thomson, Henry Brookes and Jeetan Patel as his side won by 55 runs on Wednesday.
The bowler took six of his seven wickets in his first two overs, as the rivals lost their last eight wickets for only 20 runs, to be bowled out for only 134. They were chasing 190.
Malaysia's Arul Suppiah had the previous world recorrd in T20s and had the best figures in the format, with figures of 6 for 5 which he had taken for Somerset against Glamorgan in 2011.
"It hasn't really sunk in. I'm sure I'll remember this game for a long time," the Leicestershire captain said after the visitors, chasing 190 to win, were dismissed for 134.
"I think it's the first time it's really turned at Grace Road. I tried to use my height and get a bit of bounce.
"I wanted to get the batters to hit into the bigger side of the field and mixed up my pace."
He added: "Never in a million years (did he think he would set a world record). I'm a batting all-rounder."
