Cricket Australia (CA) today released a new set pf policies that supports transgenders in their bid to play cricket at the highest level. The authorities were looking to provide ways for transgenders to play cricket in the gender they identify as, with an expert panel overseeing their path to an elite level.

CEO of CA Kevin Roberts stated that the problem of transgenders posibly having an unfair advantage will be considered as well.

"It doesn't make any sense that today, people are discriminated against, harassed or excluded, because of who they are. And that's not right," Roberts said.

"Today we demonstrate our commitment to include people with an affirmed gender identity in the game at every level and ensure all people in our communities experience Australian cricket's inclusive culture.

"As strength, stamina and physique are all relevant factors when competing in competitive sport, transgender and gender diverse players will be supported to participate in elite cricket, subject to certain criteria through the implementation of this policy."

Erica James, a transgender cricketer who was featured in CA's promotional video says that her life has changed after being accepted as a part of the cricketing community.

"The moment I realised I could play in a team of women like me I was so surprised and so happy.

"Because of these guidelines gender diverse people can play a sport that we love without feeling like we're an imposter."
