Ashes 2019: Umpires Joel Wilson and Chris Gaffaney to not officiate in remaining games
Gaffaney and Wilson were in the line of fire in the first three games, with the former giving 7 wrong decisions in the third Test, while Wilson had eight decisions overturned by the Decision Review System in the first game.
Umpires Joel Wilson and Chris Gaffaney will not officiate in the remaining two games of the Ashes 2019, with Marais Erasmus, Kumar Dharmasena and Ruchira Palliyaguruge replacing the duo in the remainder of the series.
New Zealand's Gaffaney and Wilson were in the line of fire in the first three games, with the former giving 7 wrong decisions in the third Test between England and Australia at Headingley last week, while Wilson had eight decisions overturned by the Decision Review System in the first game that was held at Edgbaston.
Erasmus will officiate in both the remaining games, while Ruchira will partner him in the fourth game. Dharmasena will come in as an on-field umpire over Ruchira in the last game of the series.
Wilson made a huge howler in the dying stages of the close third game last week, when England needed 6 runs to win with just 1 wicket left. Nathan Lyon struck Englishman Ben Stokes on the pads, but Wilson turned down the appeal. Reviews, however, suggested that Stokes was indeed out, but as the Aussies did not have a DRS left, they could not go upstairs.
Stokes, then, kept his calm and helped his team win the game, as they chased down 359 to draw level 1-1.
