Australia suffered a huge setback on Tuesday after in-form batsman Steve Smith was ruled out of the upcoming third Test of the Ashes due to a concussion. The former skipper was hit on the neck by a lethal Jofra Archer delivery in the second Test last week, which left him with a concussion.

The batsman was on 80 at that time on Day 4 and walked out of the field for 40 minutes to undergo scans. He returned and got to 92, but looked dazed in his entire stay at the crease after being hit. He was eventually ruled out of the fifth day's play, with Marnus Labuschagne being the first-ever concussion replacement in the history of the game.

Smith, who passed the concussion test on Day 4, failed to pass the test the following day as his condition worsened. He has now ben officially ruled out of the next game, with Labuschagne likely to replace him in the playing 11.

He will be missed by the team, as he got 90+ scores in all the three innings he batted in - scoring 142, 144 and 92 in the two Ashes Test thus far.
