Aussie top-order batsman Usman Khawaja has been dropped for the fourth Ashes Test against England that begins from Wednesday at Manchester, while Steve Smith has recovered from the concussion he suffered in the second Test, and has been named in the 12-member team for the upcoming game.
Khawaja, who averages only 20.33 in the last six innings has been unable to carry on after getting good starts, with the Aussie selectors finally having had enough.
The top-order player makes way to accomodate Smith, who missed the last game after he was hit on the neck by Jofra Archer in the second Test and subsequently suffered from a concussion.
The other addition to the squad has been Mitchell Starc, who has come into the 12-member squad for James Pattinson. Starc had impressed in the tour game, scalping 7 wickets. He was also the top wicket-taker in the recent World Cup 2019, picking up 27 wickets. Starc will have to fight it out with Peter Siddle for the third seamer's role, with Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood expected to hang onto their places.
Australia squad for 4th Ashes Test: David Warner, Marcus Harris, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Matthew Wade, Tim Paine (captain and wicketkeeper), Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Peter Siddle, Nathan Lyon, Pat Cummins.
