Australia will take on England in the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Thursday. The series will also mark the beginning of the ICC World Test Championship. While a lot has been spoken about Australia's fast bowlers over the years, off-spinner Nathan Lyon has quietly been going about his job ever since he has made his debut. He would be expected to complement the pacers if Australia are to win the Ashes in England for the first time since 2001.

The off-spinner from New South Wales has represented the baggy green side in 87 Tests and has picked up 343 wickets at an average of 32.24. Lyon alongside Ravichandran Ashwin are two of the leading off-spinners in world cricket at the moment especially in the longest format of the game. The duo have played a pivotal role in their side's success over the years. Ahead of the Ashes, Nathan Lyon has made a huge statement about India's premiere offie and the way he goes about his bowling.

" I have watched a lot of footage of Ravi Ashwin actually, bowling over here last year and in the tours that he has been here, how effective he has been. In my eyes he is one of the offies going around. I can definitely learn from watching how he goes about it here in England."

By the end of the five match Ashes series, Nathan Lyon would be expected to surpass Dennis Lillee's record of 355 wickets in Tests and move in to the third spot in the list of Australia's leading wicket-takers in the longest format of the game.
