Ashes 2019: Jofra Archer has come in and made a massive impact, says Joe Root
Joe Root heaps praise on Jofra Archer after a memorable performance in his debut Test at Lord's
England skipper Joe Root feels that Jofra Archer has had a massive influence on the team in his debut Test match. His words came after the second Ashes Test between England Australia which concluded in a draw at Lord's with rain playing spoilsport.
Root said, "He has come in and made a massive impact. He has added a different dynamic to our bowling group and given Australia something different to think about. It's pleasing to see someone come in on Test debut, shake up things and live up to the hype - even some of the hype he put on himself. It makes for a very interesting last three games."
"He makes things happen with such a unique action and natural pace, which is always in the game on any surface. That with the skill of the others, makes for a tasty combo."
Archer's spell on the fourth day of the test will be etched in our memories forever. His lethal spell to Steven Smith will be spoken for the days to come. First, the twin centurion in the first Test was stuck on the elbow and soon after, he received a massive blow on the neck. Later, Cricket Australia revealed that Smith had faced delayed concussion and as a result, the star batsmen will not take the field in the next Ashes Test.
Root further said, "He's very different to other options that we have had previously in this team, and on a different surface, which might nibble and swing a little bit more to add that into a quartet, it’s a really big bonus for the team. You always feel like you have got something different to turn to."
The third Ashes Test will commence at Headingley, Leeds on 22nd August. Australia hold a 1-0 lead in the series.
