Wicket-keeper batsman, Alex Carey, having impressed in the recently concluded ICC World Cup, wasn’t included in Australia’s squad for upcoming Ashes, shocking some greats of Australia.

Former skipper, Shane Warne and  Mark Waugh, all expressed disappointment with youngsters omission from the team.

Australia earlier announced a 17-member squad for the Ashes with Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft been recalled. Pertinently, Matthew Wade, another wicket-keeper batsman made a cut while Carey didn’t find the place.

Not impressed with the decision, Steve Waugh took to his Twitter handle, saying, “Got to be kidding re Alex Carey. For me Alex missing the squad is the biggest shock particularly after his batting during the World Cup and being the second-best gloveman."

Warner also responded in a similar way,

"Very surprised/disappointed that Carey didn't make the Aussie squad," He wrote on Instagram.

Meanwhile, ex-captain Mark Taylor also showed dissatisfaction with the selection of the squad.

"I was disappointed Kurtis Patterson didn't make the squad. You can't help but feel a little bit sorry for both him and (Joe) Burns," Taylor said.

"They're both coming off hundreds in their last Test matches." "It's a sign of the times," he said.

"They (the selectors) are picking on recent form rather than their last Test matches, and I guess you could say that Bancroft, (Marnus) Labuschagne, and Wade won that battle of the batsmen."
