Ashes 2019 2nd Test Day 5 Live score: Lord's Test drawn with Labuschagne standing tall
Australia are stiill 1-0 up in the five0Test Ashes series, after they had won the first game. The third Test starts at Leeds from Thursday
The second Ashes Test at Lord's was drawn as Australia, who needed 267 runs in the fourth innings to go 2-0 up in the series, ended at 154 for six in what was an absorbing day of Test cricket.
After Ben Stokes made a brilliant hundred, England declared on 258 for five, before Jofra Archer got two wickets to give the hosts hopes of a fine win. However, Marnus Labuschagne, who replaced Steven Smith after the latter was ruled out of the Test with a concussion, made 59 and Travis Head made 42 as the Australians ensured that the match ended in a draw. They are 1-0 up in the five-match Test series.
Smith was ruled out of the final day of the Test after he suffered symptoms of concussion. He had been hit on the back of his neck by a Jofra Archer delivery on Saturday, and though he had walked out to bat after walking out of the field initially, the symptons returned and he was ruled out.
Labuschagne, who too was hit on the helmet by Archer in the second ball he faced, showed calmness and batted with maturity under pressure as he got his second fifty in his sixth game.
Earlier, England resumed on 96 for 4, with Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes keeping their wickets intact till lunch. Stokes went on to the attack and got his seventh hundred in Tests to help England post over 250.
In reply, the English team got off to a good start with the ball as Archer removed David Warner and Usman Khawaja early. However Labuschagne ensured that England did not have much to celebrate thereafter as the game ended in a draw.
The next game will be played at Leeds on August 22, with Smith a doubtful starter for the match.
