India's next head coach will be picked by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), which comprises of Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shanta Rangaswamy. After the deadline for applying for the head coach ended on Tuesday, the CAC now has to interview the nominees. While the new coach is being selected, Team India will be touring West Indies for three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests. Ravi Shastri, whose contract ended after the World Cup 2019, will be in charge of this tour while the new coach is decided.

Around 7 former players from around the world have applied for the position, with Ravi Shastri getting a direct entry in the nominations list. Before team India departed for the Caribbean Islands, skipper Virat Kohli had expressed his vieews on the new coach, and wished that Shastri continue at the helm. However, Gaekwad has stated that the CAC is least bothered with his opinion.

"The captain can say anything. It doesn't bother us. We are a committee. That's his opinion and the BCCI takes a note of it, not us," Gaekwad was quoted as saying by IANS.

"We have to go with an open mind. There are interviews to be conducted. Lot of people from India and abroad have applied. We have to go there and assess things," Gaekwad added.

He went on to add that the coach for the women's team was decided without consulting the Indian women's team skipper, and it is not necessary that Kohli is kept in the loop before the coach's selection.

"It all depends on BCCI. BCCI has to give us guideline and then we will go accordingly. He has already said yesterday (what he wants). When we chose the women's coach, we did not contact anybody. We did it on our own," Gaekwad further said.
