The Sri Lankan cricket team will tour Pakistan next month for three T20Is and three ODIs, the sports minister said on Thursday.

"We are not in a position to send the team to Pakistan to play the two Tests, but we will be in Pakistan for about eight days to play the ODIs or the T20 matches," Harin Fernando told reporters in Colombo.

The Sri Lanka Cricket board announced the schedule for the series, with three T20Is and three ODIs being held from September 27 till October 9, with Karachi hosting the ODIs and Lahore hosting the T20Is. The two Tests will be held in December, probably in UAE.

“The PCB is pleased with the outcome of its discussions with Sri Lanka Cricket, which has supported Pakistan in its efforts and endeavours for the complete revival of international cricket,” PCB chairman Ehsan Mani said.

“The safety and security of its players is the responsibility of the SLC, which it takes very seriously. If there had been any doubts, the SLC would not have gone ahead with this arrangement,” SLC president Shammi Silva said.

International teams have not been willing to travel to Pakistan since a terror attack in Lahore in 2009, where terrorists shot the Sri Lanka team bus, leaving seven cricketers injured. Since then, only Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and Kenya played short series' in the land between 2013 and 2015.
