Planning a wedding: THESE chaats deserve a special place in your wedding menu

While we don’t know who was the first person to make a delicious plate of chaat, but we sure are grateful to them! It is believed that the origin of the word ‘chaat’ is probably derived from  the “chatpatta” taste of the food items - a taste that is salty, sweet and tangy! It might also be derived from the word “chaatna” which means to lick your plate after a scrumptious helping of your favourite snack!

India is a rich country when it comes to food and flavours. Needless to say we also came up with different chaats that have originated in different parts of India. Not only are these chaats often made from local ingredients, they are also distinctly different in taste, sight and smell. You can have a chaat station at your wedding wherein chaats from all around the country will be served. Your guests will surely love this unique starters menu!

Bhelpuri

A staple to the beaches of Mumbai, bhelpuri is not only really delicious but also quite healthy! This delicious concoction of puffed rice, sev, chopped onions, potatoes, papdi and tamarind chutney will be a sure hit!

Raj Kachori

A speciality from the city of Jaipur, raj kachori is truly the royal of chaats. Massive kachoris are broken open and stuffed with chutney, sev, dahi, coriander leaves and some extra kachori stuffing. Due to its massive size, even one raj kachori turns out to be extremely filling!

Phuchka

No visit to Kolkata is complete without a taste of the city’s delicious phuchkas. The potatoes are mixed with a special masala, lemon juice, chickpeas and chillies, and the tamarind water adds the extra zest. Set up a phuchka station and see your guests popping away one too many!

Aloo tikki chaat

Delhi is proud of its aloo tikki chaat and deservedly so. A delicious plate of aloo tikki chaat consists of potato patties, sev, yogurt, lots of chutney and any other additions that you may want. Aloo tikki chaat is quite filling and definitely yummy!

Dahi vada

Dahi vada or thayir vadai finds its roots in Tamil Nadu. Today most cities have localised the chaat and have their own special varieties. The lentil vadas are served with a generous helping of yogurt and chutney. A little sweet in taste, dahi vada is loved by everyone!
