Planning a Wedding? Here’s how you can have an ECO FRIENDLY wedding

When we plan a wedding, we make it all about the bride and groom. And why should it be anything other than that? But while we get busy planning the ultimate celebration of love, we tend to forget that a wedding is also responsible for generating a lot of waste, discard and misuse of natural resources. Every wedding involves a lot of planning with the expectation that the execution should be perfect.

But have you wondered what you can do to make your wedding eco friendly? It’s actually very easy and is cheaper than one-time use products! You can incorporate little green details into your wedding and set an example amongst your loved ones that one should not forget the environment even in the mid of celebrations! After all, weddings are all about the future and it is only by being responsible that we can save the future of our beautiful planet!

1. Send out e-vites

Wedding cards look beautiful and it’s a great way to personalise an invite, but they also generate immense paper and plastic waste! Also, hardly any of us preserve wedding cards so they just end up in the next day’s trash. E-vites are better for the environment since you get to cutback on paper wastage and the cost of them sending them out is...none!

2. Make your wedding a plastic free zone

It’s actually easier than it sounds! Switch plastic cutlery and water bottles with ceramic, bone china or metal cutlery. Encourage your guests to not wrap their gifts in plastic packing papers. Ditch plastic decorations and opt for fresh flowers, dry foliage, brass bells, cloth drapes and recycled paper streamers!

3. Ensure that there’s a proper waste management system in place

Let’s be real - weddings generate a lot of waste. We end up throwing food, flowers and other items in the trash. Ask your wedding planner to make arrangements for dry and wet waste. You can even donate the leftover food to a charity. Ensure that all the trash is properly disposed the next day. Do not donate spoilt food.

4. Say no to firecrackers

Firecrackers may look extremely enticing, but they are definitely harmful to the environment. Opt for diyas, solar energy lit lamps and tealight candles instead of burning crackers.

5. Opt for a daytime wedding

Nighttime weddings consume a lot of energy powering up lights and lamps. Daytime weddings are not only eco-friendly (since they eliminate the need for light bulbs), the natural light is also great for getting stunning photos!
