Many individuals deal with a lot of worries on a daily basis related to work. They might even face problems in personal life which affects their working. There are numerous causes of workplace anxiety. So, what actually is workplace anxiety? Well, a certain amount of stress and anxiety is good at work since it keeps you going but excessive, persistent and irrational anxiety is bad and must be looked into.

What causes Work Anxiety?

The causes of workplace anxiety may vary from person to person as well as job to job. Everyone has a different nature of work and different causes of anxiety. Some of the common causes of anxiety at work are listed below:

Worried about tasks

Financial worries

Meeting deadlines

Delayed promotion

Lack of incentives

Health concerns

Family concerns

Personal problems

These are some causes that may make you anxious at work. So, the question is how to deal with anxiety at work?

Leave the desk

Get off the computer for a while. For most of us, our work days consist of sitting in front of the computer, barely moving and blinking. This leads to stress and inability to concentrate. Get up and walk around for a while. Relax your mind and body. It will not only help you focus better but also release anxiety.

Plan your day

When you wake up in the morning, make a list of all things you need to do that particular day. This will help you stay organized and know what the day is going to be like. Keep ticking off tasks from the list as and when you complete it. It will make you feel happier and reduce burden. One of the major causes of anxiety is overburden and unorganized work.

Honest Deadlines

Set honest deadlines. Anxious people tend to agree to deadlines that they know they cannot meet. Instead of apologizing later and overburdening yourself with work, give an honest timeline. Doing the job earlier will make you look better too.

Keep in touch

Build strong contacts with your co-workers and managers. Know everyone’s names and have a solid one-to-one relationship. This makes it easier to solve problems and talk about your worries too. The more you approach people with problems and communicate, the less anxious it will make you over time.

Seek Professional Help

Get access to resources in your office like Employee Welfare Associations. These associations help with mental health issues related to workplace. Speak to your manager if needed. Open up about your problems. Never suppress your anxiety.
