Weight loss: Diet or Exercise? Here’s what works best for our body

It is fair to say that with every passing day, more and more of us are getting aware about our health. We are thankfully getting into the practise of eating healthy, giving our body that much needed time and trying to achieve mental peace. At least we try to, given the mad schedule all of us hustle and bustle in.

From a wide valley of health issues, there’s one particular issue which has gained a lot of prominence, i.e, weight loss. We are so sure that you must have heard a gazillion people complain about their weight and how they are doing everything in their power to lose weight. Majority of the time we either see these folks follow an inhuman diet or burn themselves in the gym, but is it really that way? Do we have to pick one? Or carry out both in equal amount?

To solve this very confusion, we’ve got your back and here’s a complete low down - on diet vs exercise and which is better! From points to understand, to analysing your body system to finally concluding what will suit your body the best, here’s a list of everything.

Understand your body

It is extremely essential to understand how your body works. If a low-carb diet works for someone else it does not necessarily mean that it’ll work for you too. The quicker you lose weight with an unhealthy diet, the faster you’ll regain it too. All the crash diet courses will only help in slowing down your metabolism and nothing else.

Don’t just randomly pick up a diet that you’ve read off the Internet. Understand your body-type and your lifestyle and then consult a specialist.

Exercise - Diet

While most of us think that diet and exercise holds a 50-50 role, well then you’re in for a surprise. According to research and specialists, the ratio is 80-20. 80% diet and 20% exercise. Yes, the food that you consume determines everything about your body. You cannot not give the important calories which your body demands. When losing weight, you should be focusing on 2-3 days of cardio and 3 days of strength training - this we believe will do all the wonders.

“Precaution is better than cure” and rightly so. Major diseases like diabetes, blood pressure, thyroid, are all spreading like epidemics, it’s best that we keep a check on our sugar and salt levels from an earlier stage.

Diet or exercise? Who wins?

The winner hands down has to be the diet. Out of the four pillars of weight loss, diet holds the three pillars. Hence it is extremely essential for everyone to keep their diet in check as this determines how easy your weight loss journey will be. Follow the 80-20 ratio and be consistent with it. It’ll be best if you make it into a lifestyle pattern as it’ll not just change your body but also your mind.

While we understand that weight loss can be quite tedious, what you need to understand that you have to be patient about the entire journey. You cannot expect miracles overnight or in a span of a week. Do not follow everything that you see on the internet. Consult a proper dietician before you take up anything and most importantly, love your body. There is absolutely no way getting away from that.
