Nobody is YOU and that is your power...

"Go on and try to tear me down, I will be rising from the ground, like a skyscraper..."

Powerful, compelling and stimulating - Demi Lovato belts out these lyrics and you can't help but vibe with her. The young pop star who has been a victim of body shaming and has had her fair share of criticism has surely come a long-long way. Though Demi hasn't always been content with her looks and has struggled with self-love, she is finally at her winning point.

The gorgeous diva is finally embracing her curves and her newfound body confidence has been sending her fans into a frenzy! Today, the beauty took to her Instagram handle and shared a beautiful picture of herself, captioned: "I don't have a thigh gap and I'm still beautiful the way I am," she hashtagged the words recovery, self-love and everybody is beautiful.

Just like Demi, there have been a number of celebrities that have been subjected to body shaming. From Lady Gaga, Emma Stone and Adele to Sonakshi Sinha and Kareena Kapoor Khan. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Kareena reacted to a body shaming comment she read about herself.  She said, "I was like, that is so unfair. I just delivered and it has been only 45 days. They were like, 'why is she going out' and I thought, that is the most normal thing to do. To have a life, to do things....to still be able to do the things you enjoy doing."

The reason why I'm referring to celebrities, in particular, is because that's what the common man often aims to look like. We're always in awe of the movies and want to look as perfect as the flawless heroines on screen. Sadly, that's not how it works and even celebrities aren't as perfect as we assume them to be.

We are living in a time where outer beauty is everything - it’s a massive market that homes into women's insecurities, making you believe if you purchase a product a celebrity is seen wearing you to can look like them to.

Everyday, thousands of women around the world look in the mirror with feelings of hate and disgust. They succumb to the ridiculous pressure of fitting into society's mould of what a 'perfect body' should look like, and get caught in a vicious cycle. Why does this happen? Who decides what a perfect body should or should not look like and why must a woman have to defend her right to wear a bathing suit or a pair of shorts?

While most of us are well aware that this problem exists, we rarely do much about finding a solution. But today, I would like to urge you to help instead of hiding. Can you imagine the positive change in mindsets we can bring about if you and I stopped being ashamed of how we look? Can you imagine how your world could change if only you started loving yourself unapologetically?

It's high time we start realising that everybody is beautiful. Don't be afraid of being laughed at just because you aren't a perfect hourglass or any shape for that matter. Nobody else is you and that is your power. You know how they say - you can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there's still going to be somebody who hates peaches...well, that's how it's always going to be and that's okay. Not everybody will like you and not everybody has to.

We need to stop aiming for perfection and make peace with what we already are. So stop starving yourself or eating more than you can to look like those girls on the covers of magazines. Don't get me wrong, these women are beautiful in their own right, however everyday girls like you and I, don't have the luxury of a personal hair and makeup artist following us around. We don't have a stylist with a never-ending wardrobe of options, not forgetting the personal trainers and chefs on standby. So, accept it and own who YOU are. Also, you need to remember -even the girl in the magazine does not look like the girl in the magazine.
