Post Holi hangover? Here are 5 homemade remedies you must try
Fed up of nausea and headache after binge-eating bhaang snacks? Here’s how to deal with the post-Holi hangover.
Celebrated to mark the arrival of spring, Holi brings a bounty of colours in the air. Friends and family get together to sprinkle herbal powder and throw water balloons on each other. No celebration is complete without mouth-watering delicacies and desserts coupled with bhaang. Extracted from the leaves and bud of the cannabis plant, the powder is mixed in thandai or added in pakodas, laddoos and brownies for an intoxicating effect on the festival.
After the merrymaking is over, consuming bhaang can cause a hangover that may be range from mild to severe the next day. In some cases, it even lasts for two days. Although the herb was known to have medicinal properties, the hangover can be quite extreme as it activates bodily functions.
Fed up of nausea and headache? Here are a few home remedies that will help subside the after-effects.
Honey
The presence of fructose in honey can neutralise the harmful effects of bhaang. It is soothing for the stomach and helps in digestion of alcohol.
Lemon water
Lemon juice is known to be the fastest relief provider after drinking alcohol. It not only help in a good detox but also controls the sugar level in the body after an excess intake of alcohol.
Fresh fruits
Eating raw fruits or a crunchy salad is an effective way to treat hangovers. A banana smoothie is also relaxing and helps retain the lost blood sugar in the body.
Green tea
A cup of green tea can heal the body and mind. Herbal tea, rose tea or jasmine tea can work magic too. The low amount of caffeine and antioxidants present in the beverages are an added benefit in treating hangovers.
Lukewarm water bath
Warm water can help stimulate your mind and help in reducing headache and body ache. It will also soothe your nerves and diminish the dizziness from over-drinking.
Avoid sweetened or carbonated drinks and try to drink as much water as possible. An energizing walk or a good sleep is also a great way to get rid of the hangover.
