Pet Parenting: THESE human foods are actually DANGEROUS for dogs

Dogs get easily excitable during mealtimes and they might even pester you to share your food with them. A lot of us don’t think twice before sharing our food with our pets, after all what we are eating is not only delicious but also nutritious. Feeding the same meal as us to our dogs or serving them leftovers is a common practice in households that have pets. While a good amount of food you are serving to your dog could be beneficial to them, there are also a number of food items that can trigger illnesses in our pets. The food that is nutritious to humans could be dangerous, poisonous and even life threatening to our canine companions. Find out which foods are actually harmful and you should avoid feeding your dogs right away!

1. Chocolate

Chocolate contains a stimulant called theobromine, which is poisonous to dogs. Theobromine mainly can hamper the normal functioning of guts, heart, central nervous system, and kidneys. Vomiting, diarrhoea, restlessness, hyperactivity and seizures are common symptoms of chocolate poisoning.

2. Candies

Candies contain xylitol. Xylitol causes an insulin surge through a dog’s body that leads to drop in blood sugar and even liver failure. Xylitol poisoning leads to lethargy, vomiting, loss of coordination, seizures, and sometimes death.

3. High fat meat products

High fat meat products like bacon or ham can cause pancreatitis in dogs. It also leads to an upset stomach and bloating. Bloating may prove fatal to your dog. Stick to lean meat for their protein intake.

4. Garlic and onions

Garlic and onions end up destroying a dog’s red blood cells. This leads to anemia, weakness, vomiting, breathlessness, and reluctance in eating food. Small amount of garlic and onions are less likely to create problems in your dog’s health.

5. Dairy products

Dogs lack the enzyme to break down milk sugar and most dogs are lactose intolerant. Milk products cause dogs to vomit, have diarrhea, or develop gastrointestinal diseases. You also expose your dog to the risk of pancreatitis as most dairy products also have a high fat content!
