Maha Shivratri is a festival that celebrates the convergence of Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti. This year it will be observed on March 11, 2021. On this day, people chant mantras, observe a fast and pray to Lord Shiva. Devotees stay up all night and sing bhajans. 

The devotees take a dip in the holy Ganga river and visit Shiva temples to make offerings of milk, sweets, fruits, bel Patra, etc. Have a look at the auspicious time to perform the puja, significance, etc of this day. 

Significance:

This day celebrates the convergence of Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti. It is believed that on this day, Lord Shiva reunites with Goddess Parvati at midnight of Shivratri and Maha Shivratri marks their union. 

Puja Timings: 

The Chaturdashi tithi begins at 02.39 PM on March 11 and ends at 03.02 PM on March 12.

The timings for the Chaar Prahars are as follows:

Shivratri first Prahar puja time is from 6:27 PM to 9:29 PM on March 12

Shivratri second Prahar puja time is from 9:29 PM to 12:31 AM on March 12

Shivratri third Prahar puja time is from 12:31 AM to 03:32 AM on March 12

Shivratri fourth Prahar puja time is from 3:32 AM to 06:34 AM on March 12

Puja Vidhi:

The Maha Shivratri puja is performed four times during the night on Chaturdashi, and these are known as Char Prahars. During the puja, devotees also chant ‘Om Namah Shivay’ 108 times.
