Lunar Eclipse 2019: Everything you need to know about the celestial event, how & where to see it from in India
Lunar Eclipse 2019: The last lunar eclipse will take place tonight, July 16-17 and will be visible in India as well! Here is everything you need to know about the Eclipse.
The Lunar Eclipse is a celestial event which takes place when the Earth, Moon and Sun are aligned in a straight line. At this point, the Earth is right in the middle of the moon and the sun and casts a shadow on the moon. Due to this, the moon looks reddish since the Earth is reflecting the sunlight. This is the total Lunar Eclipse. A partial eclipse occurs when the three bodies do not form a straight line and only a small part of the moon is covered by Earth's shadow. The Eclipse will be visible in India tonight, July 16, and will be coinciding with Guru Purnima and is the final Lunar Eclipse of the year.

In India, the Eclipse will begin on July 17 at 12.11 am and go on till around 5.59 am. But the maximum eclipse will be seen at around 3 am and will be ongoing for around five and a half hours.
Unlike the Solar Eclipse, one does not need to protect their eyes to view the Lunar Eclipse. It can be viewed without dark glasses or 3D glasses and even without a telescope or any other equipment. But of course, this is phenomenon can be viewed better without the disturbance of city lights in the sky which could hinder the view.
Since it is currently monsoon, clouds might obstruct ones view. To view this phenomenon well, you will need clear and cloudless skies.

Some of the best places to view the Lunar Eclipse 2019 from India are:
Leh: This hilly area is one of the best places to view the Eclipse from. It offers a clear and non-obstructed view and also makes for one of the most scenic destinations in the country!
Pondicherry: This place in Tamil Nadu is not expected to receive rainfall until October, making for the perfect opportunity to visit the French community, enjoy the sea, silence and of course this event!
Jodhpur: Considering it is situated in Rajastha, which barely sees any rainfall and is one of the hottest places in the country, Jodhpur makes for a great place to view the Eclipse from. Plus the Umaid Bhawan Palace, starry skies and colourful markets, make this place a must visit during this time!
