How to deal with a panic attack? Psychologist Krishna Dewani shares tips and tricks
We all are living stressful lives. That's why anxiety and heightened anxiety leading to panic attacks have become a common issue among many people across the world. For the unversed, the anxiety happens suddenly and involve an intense feeling of fear along with physical symptoms.

For the unversed, the same happens suddenly and involve an intense feeling of fear along with physical symptoms such as faster heartbeat, shortness of breath, sweating and nausea among others. Some feel that they are having a heart attack or a stroke. Some of the major triggers of the attack are a stressful job, social situations, phobias, traumatic experiences, chronic pain and illnesses, withdrawal from drugs, caffeine and alcohol and medications among others.
When asked how one can deal panic attacks to which psychologist Krishna Dewani said, "Panic attacks can be dealt by deep breathing, counting(forwards or backward), closing eyes and relaxing, light exercise, relaxation techniques (contracting and relaxing the muscles), medications and moreover the acceptance of the fact that one is going through a panic attack."
We also asked her how one can prevent and curb anxiety and related disorders. She said, "Firstly, regular exercise or playing a sport can help in maintaining a balance of hormones and reduce the anxiousness. Secondly, meditation and mindfulness help both mind and body thus leading to reduction of the anxiety levels. Thirdly, muscle relaxation techniques work wonders for anxiety patients. These techniques can be learned through a psychologist or therapist."
She added how acupressure can help to alleviate signs of anxiety and panic attack. She opined, "Acupressure points can be pressed when going through anxiety, but must be practiced only by a professional. In case of severe anxiety, an individual must consult a therapist." Speaking about the foods which can better the mood, she said chocolates, yogurt, fish, and eggs can work wonders.
