Attending Diwali parties with our loved ones is one of the best things about Diwali. It is one of the greatest joys to enjoy the company of our friends and family amidst plenty of food, drinks, games and laughter. No matter how close the host of the party is, as a guest you should always be on your best behaviour. The host puts together a party with a lot of love and dedication, so it’s important that you that you acknowledge their efforts by being considerate guests. Here are a few ways on how to become a star guest this festive season!

RSVP ASAP

Try to respond to a party invitation within a day of receiving it. RSVP is not just a mere formality but an important way for your hosts to go about their party arrangements. An early RSVP gives your hosts a headstart about party logistics and plan the event smoothly. Also mention any dietary restrictions that you may have so that there’s no awkward moment later!

Be on time

While arriving slightly early is alright, coming late to a party is a strict no-no. It is considered rude and rightly so. If you are going to be late for whatever reason, make sure you inform your hosts beforehand. Also inform your hosts if you have to leave the party early. Do not cancel at the last minute either!

Bring along a gift

Nothing expresses gratitude better than a thoughtful gift. Hosts often insist on not bringing a gift, but even a small token of thanks can convey better than words about how grateful you are for attending the party. A bottle of wine, chocolates or even a bouquet of flowers make for a great gift!

Offer to help

Your hosts are probably worked to the T organising the party. Even when it looks like they have got everything under control, you should still offer to help. Setting up the table, serving food and drinks, or cleaning up the dishes after dinner is a great way to contribute to party chores!

Be respectful of the host’s space

Diwali parties are usually held at home - either inside or the backyard. Remember you are visiting someone’s private space while attending a party. Do not litter, trash the place, dirty the washroom or move belongings. Make sure that at the end of the day the house is as clean as it was when you entered!
