WHAT IS CHRONIC STRESS?

When a person has been experiencing stress for a long period of time, this stress becomes chronic or severe. This stress affects the body to the extent that the body can no longer activate relaxation response. Our bodies are capable of tolerating acute stress which is short-term. Certain stressors which affect the body with high intensity or frequency are called chronic stressors. They damage the body directly or indirectly. Chronic stress puts the pressure on the body for a long period of time; this is why it can easily cause illness.
