Low blood pressure, also called as hypotension, differs from person to person. The ideal blood pressure reading is 120/80 mm Hg, but numbers outside this range are still considered to be healthy. An ideal blood pressure reading is based on age, medical history and overall well being of the person. But if your reading is under 90/60 mm Hg, then that's when you get low blood pressure.

Weakness, fainting, vomiting, dizziness and blurry vision are the symptoms of low blood pressure. If you have shallow breathing, cold skin and rapid pulse, then you should visit the doctor immediately. Low blood pressure is caused because of numerous conditions. Change in diet, heart disease, anaemia, dehydration, extreme blood loss, stress, rigorous exercise, infection and pregnancy to name a few can cause low blood pressure. And if you are suffering from low blood pressure, then you must increase the intake of these food items in your diet.

Increase fluid intake:

Dehydration decreases blood volume, which causes blood pressure to drop. Consuming a sufficient amount of water or juices while doing any strenuous activity is a must.

Vitamin B-12 rich food:

Absence or little consumption of B-12 can cause anaemia, which is one of the causes of low blood pressure. Include food high in B-12 like eggs, cereal, and red meat in your diet.

Food high in folate:

Less of folate in the body can have the same effect on the body as vitamin B-12. Include folate-rich food like asparagus, garbanzo beans, and liver.

Salt:

Salty food is good when it comes to low blood pressure. They can increase blood pressure in the body. Eat canned soup, smoked fish, cottage cheese, and olives.

Caffeine:

Caffeinated drink may temporarily spike blood pressure in the body, thereby, boosting your heart rate.

Apart from this, increase the consumption of water, limit alcohol consumption, and eat small meals more frequently.
