Are you suffering from constant kidney pain? Several factors might be the reason for this discomfort. The function of these two organs is to remove all excess fluid and waste product from the body. Kidneys are located against the back muscles in the upper abdominal area on both the left and right sides. So, sometimes it might be hard to distinguish between kidney pain and back pain. 

So, here are the symptoms and causes of kidney pain:

Some common causes of kidney pain are:

Urinary Tract Infection. 

Kidney Infection. 

Polycystic Kidney Disease.

Blood clots in the kidney.

Bleeding in the kidneys. 

Symptoms of kidney pain:

Most common symptoms of kidney pain are as follows:

Fever

Pain while urinating. 

Flank pain.

Nausea and vomiting. 

Dizziness

Constipation or diarrhoea.

Fatigue.

Rashes.

Metallic taste in the mouth. 

Bad breath.

Swelling and shortness of breath. 

This pain can be on both sides of the kidney or on one side as well. 

Treatment of kidney pain

Treatment of kidney pain depends on its cause. So, first, your doctor may want you to do a urine test to find the cause along with ultrasound. A CT scan or MRI of the abdomen or pelvis can also be recommended. Then he will start the treatment and prescribe medicines accordingly. But in general, ibuprofen, ketorolac, or acetaminophen are prescribed for the pain. If a bacterial infection is causing this discomfort, then you will be prescribed antibiotics as well. 

Prevention of kidney pain

If a serious condition has already been diagnosed then consulting the doctor at the right time and treating it properly can give you good and positive results. 

Other symptoms which are not kidney pain

There are some other symptoms which can mimic the kidney pain but they are not actually caused by kidney problems. So, be cautious about those symptoms so that you can’t get confused with them. These are as follows:

Muscle strains in the back. 

Spinal problems. 

Rib pain. 

Shingles. 

Gynaecological problems. 

Pleuritis.

Radiculitis. 

Retroperitoneal fibrosis.
