Misal Pav is a famous street food from western India. It has a spicy taste and is made with bean sprouts, onions and farsan. It has a rich flavour profile and is usually served for breakfast or as a snack.
The pav is a lightly buttered bread that completes the dish and perfectly balances out the spiciness of the misal. Check out this easy 5-step recipe to make delicious Misal Pav at home and treat your family members with this popular and spicy dish.

Step 1
Blend 2 tomatoes, 3 green chillies, ½ inch ginger, 5 cloves of garlic and 2 tbsp of dry shredded coconut to make a smooth paste.
Step 2
Heat some oil in a pan and add 2 tbsp mustard seeds, ½ tsp asafoetida, chopped coriander and chopped onion. Saute these ingredients on medium heat for 2-3 minutes.
Step 3
Add the prepared paste. Now add 1 tsp red chilli powder, ½ tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, ½ tsp garam masala and a pinch of salt. Add 1 cup of sprouted beans and 2 cups of water. Let it simmer for 3-4 minutes.

Step 4
For the pav, simply heat some butter in a pan and shallow fry the pav in the butter from each side for 2-3 minutes.
Step 5
To serve, garnish the misal with freshly chopped coriander and serve the pav along with it. Top the misal with some roughly chopped onions and farsan. You can also squeeze half a lemon in the misal to enhance the flavour.
