Eczema: 5 common myths about this skin condition BUSTED

Eczema is an inflammatory skin condition that causes dry and itchy skin. It is caused due to several reasons and some are still unknown. But there are many myths about eczema that people still believe and follow them. So, it’s time to debunk those myths and know the actual truth, so that people can get it treated in the right way.

Myths about eczema debunked:

It is contagious

It is not true. Eczema is a genetic condition and not contagious. If you have it, then you can’t spread it just by rubbing your skin with others. And there is no chance of getting eczema just by coming in close contact to someone having it.

Your baby will also have it

If you have someone in your family struggling with eczema, it increases the chances for your baby to have it. And mostly, the condition shows up in the baby within the first year. But you can reduce the risk by using a good moisturiser regularly for his or her skin to give the protection.

Eczema is caused by stress

This is another misconception about this skin condition. Eczema is not caused by stress, but excess stress can trigger the skin condition making it worse. Stress increases the releases of stress hormone that can increase the inflammation.

Eczema can be cured

Unfortunately, there is no exact cure for eczema. But regular moisturisation and anti-inflammatory medications can reduce inflammation and itchiness.

Quick treatment reduces it

But trying to treat it quickly will make it worse by increasing the inflammation and itching. As a result, more scratching and bacterial infection will make you suffer more. So, do it slowly as directed by your dermatologist and maintain some basic lifestyle habits like avoiding excessive heat and sweat, keeping the skin moisturised, etc.
