Comfort and good looks aren't mutually exclusive anymore

I may be Samantha now, but heretofore when I did associate with Carrie on a more conscious level, I, too, was one in the panoply of women who had bought into her lies on SATC (I promise I will get into the dynamics of this staggering personality shift in another article. It is, indeed, a truth worth acknowledging). I believed it is possible to find love even in the most emotionally unavailable, lukewarm/hot/subarctic-cold person when she ended up with Mr. Big, after full 5 seasons, mind you. And, more importantly, I believed her when she comfortably maneuvered the Asphalt streets of Manhattan in pointy heels like it was nbd.

Now, modeling my relationships after Carrie and Big’s and in return screwing them up is something I can deal with. But, the pain of walking in her shoes (pun intended) is something my feet cannot. The chastity is just not worth the eyeballs my shoes will grab while I wear them. Just, no.

Lucky for us, the advent of Miuccia Prada’s ugly grandad sneakers into streetstyle has prompted a barrage of high-fashion pain-free shoes to inundate our shoe wardrobes. Think: slip-ons, loafers, ballet flats and even espadrille wedges. More and more people are subverting high heels for comfort and given a choice between wearing heels and forgoing them, people are ubiquitously choosing the latter.

But, this brings me to a more pressing question. How long can we really last without thinking about heels? I mean, isn’t Candice Swanepoel’s Victoria’s Secret gait - with the staccato of her 5-inch heels as the background score, of course - the image you conjure in your head when I say, “glamour”? Have you not panicked three times over in your mind already at the thought of wearing your LBD with, um, not heels?

Well, don’t hyperventilate just yet. There’s hope for all of us who’s not ready to relinquish the silhouette quite yet. Comfortable heels - which not only let you stand an hour but also walk ten blocks - do exist. And they’re called block heels.

Look, here’s proof.

Priyanka’s face bears semblance to someone who’s not peeled her sweaty toes from her shoes at the first opportunity (not that her toes are sweaty).

Let’s just say, if I were to draw a Venn diagram to justify how amazing block heels feel, comfort and good looks wouldn’t be mutually exclusive.

Like the purveyors of all things good in our life, leave it to these celebrity soles to convince you to try them on. Whether your shoesday investment lists mules, some pointy variant or the ankle-strapped ones, you’ll find your footing (literally) in the images ahead.

Now, as someone who always has her finger on the pulse of all that’s fashionable, I practice what I preach.

I wore block heeled mules to work and rode the Metro in them (*smug face smiley*)

If that didn’t convince you, I don’t know what will!
