The rights of women in the United States of America is currently facing a huge crisis. States like Alabama and Georgia are all set to strip women of their rights to abortion. The brand seems to be looking to the feminist moment from the 70's for inspiration. Designer Alessandro Michele mirrored the current political climate by advocating for women's reproductive rights with the 2020 collection of Gucci.

This show was all about freedom, expression of oneself and gender equality. Michele paid homage to the day when abortion became legal in Rome - May 22, 1978 by embroidering the date across an outfit. '70s feminist slogan "My body my choice," was also embroidered on the back of a purple jacket!

The next outfit that is doing rounds on social media too, was a pretty pleated evening gown with an embroidered uterus that had beads and sequins all over it.

Talking about her collection, the designer said, "Among other citations, there are some references to the seventies, a moment in time when boundaries were blurred compared with nowadays."

The brand even took to their Instagram page to upload pictures from the runway with a caption that read, "Since founding @chimeforchange in 2013—the global campaign that represents and advocates for gender equality- @gucci has a longstanding commitment to women and girls by funding projects around the world to support sexual and reproductive rights, maternal health, and the freedom of individual choice. Because none of us can move forward if half of us are held back. Learn more about the global partners for sexual and family health rights the campaign is donating to in 2019."
