Every girl wishes to look her very best on her big day. From her bridal ensemble to her hair and makeup, she wants to look her prettiest version, and no look, if we may add, is ever complete without great jewellery which further compliments her trousseau. Some brides like it modern and contemporary while some like to stick to traditional and ancestral designs. Pinkvilla has come to the rescue of all the confused brides out there. We EXCLUSIVELY interviewed Ishu Datwani, Founder of Anmol Jewellers, who spoke in detail about all things jewellery.
Which stones and design cuts are trending big this wedding season?
The big bridal jewellery trend to look forward to this year will be that of classic diamond jewellery with big diamonds and precious coloured gemstones like emeralds, rubies, sapphires, and tanzanites. We have extensively worked with rose gold this season as it a very popular trend currently. Rose gold gives a very classy, elegant and luxurious look. We are also working on some unique concepts using briolettes, rose-cut diamonds and uncut diamonds in interesting designs. In terms of traditional jewellery, Indian brides are opting for elaborate uncut diamond jewellery this wedding season. In terms of contemporary jewellery, this year we see that brides are choosing elegant and classic designs in rose gold.
How has jewellery changed over the years? What does a young bride come looking for now?
Women these days have an active social life and they look for design-oriented, versatile & statement jewellery which compliments both modern and traditional silhouettes and can be worn in different ways for different occasions even after the wedding. They don’t want heavy jewellery pieces which remain locked away. Brides are looking for more light-weight and wearable jewellery. Some brides go for modular or detachable jewellery since it gives them the option to break-down their expensive and heavy bridal jewellery into lighter components.
One jewellery piece that a bride should ALWAYS wear on her big day?
An elaborate choker is a must-have for brides. A bride can go for a choker with a layered necklace or combine an ethnic choker with a long Maharani haar for a regal look. A diamond choker with a single coloured gemstone like emerald or rubies, on the other hand, gives a very classy & elegant look.
Which is that one piece of jewellery that works best as a gift to the bride?
For brides, a pair of classic diamond earrings or a diamond bracelet works best as a gift.
One jewellery piece that has come back in Vogue?
Bridal accessories like haathphool, armbands, waistbands and hair accessories have evolved to a great extent to suit the taste of a modern bride and are definitely seeing a comeback. A bride can wear one stunning bridal accessory like an intricate hair-ornament, an oversized nose ring, a distinct armband, a waistband or an elaborate haathphool complimenting her trousseau to give a traditional opulent look.
