EXCLUSIVE: ‘Plagiarism has always been there & will be there,’ says Nanki as she talks about summer trends

It’s fashion month and while brands and designers are going all out to showcase their collection at the ongoing fashion week, we’re here talking to the creatives behind the screen to get first-hand information on what we have in store for the season. Case in point, we have Nanki Papneja, the creative head of Limerick here to discuss all things fashion and here’s everything we discussed.

You play a lot with prints and breezy silhouettes, which means summer is your season to shine. Walk us through a few trends our readers should look out for.

Limerick is all about fuss-free, easy to wear silhouettes with a focus on resort wear. This season you will see a coming together of traditional crafts like Pichwai and contemporary design, born from the rich artistic heritage of India. From flowy kaftans to draped dresses- there is a lot to look out for this season.

If you think there’s one Bollywood celebrity that can be the face of your brand, who would it be?

I think Priyanka Chopra would be a perfect fit for the brand.

With new lots of designers coming forward each year, how have you managed to stay relevant?

To stay relevant, one has to stay true to his / her core yet upgrade with the changing circumstances. We don't compete with anyone, our artworks and compositions are our strength and with every collection, we try and bring a lot of innovation on this front. Prints have always been our strength and with every collection, we make it a point to bring something fresh to the table.

What are your thoughts on plagiarism and Diet Sabya’s role in calling it out?

I think it's great to finally have a fashion policeman. Plagiarism has always been there and will be there but it's important for fashion-conscious consumer to know what they are paying for.

With most brands accepting a body-positive image, what are your thoughts about it and what role does Limerick play in the same?

Real people don't have perfect bodies. I think it's great the amount of attention body positivity is finally getting right now. At Limerick, we have always ensured that a majority of the silhouettes we do every season, are either free size or suit major body types.

Trends or classics - Your favourite and why?

Kaftans and maxis are an all-time favourite for me. These are fuss-free and look great on all body types

Prints or solid colours - your favourite and why?

Prints - any day! If done right, they have the power to convert a simple silhouette into a head-turner.
