Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Italy on 11th December 2017. Other than the chemistry of this adorable couple we could not stop drooling over Anushka Sharma's style. We have reached a time where all 90s kids begin to get married and the 2018 bride is unconventional, rebellious, real, raw and poised. Today's bride has to be a surreal combination of luxury, simplicity, intimacy, and love.

From her spirit during her wedding to her charming outfits and her wedding no-makeup-makeup look, there is a good reason why Anushka Sharma is what every bride will be like in the coming years.

The man behind Anushka's stunning outfits was Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Recently, the ace designer spoke to a popular publication and got candid about- the thought process behind each look, what Anushka wanted, the reactions on the outfit and the impact on the brand "Sabya"

Sabyasachi told the magazine that when he started discussing Anushka's wedding looks with her, she was certain that she wanted to be a Sabyasachi bride. He further added that Anushka follows them on Instagram, as many other Bollywood actors do. He stated that they all like the fact that the look is very consonant, it’s very identifiable and it’s very traditional. Anushka is a very understated girl and she did not want the lehenga to be very heavy as she wanted to enjoy her own wedding.

"ANUSHKA IS A VERY UNDERSTATED GIRL AND SHE DID NOT WANT THE LEHENGA TO BE VERY HEAVY AS SHE WANTED TO ENJOY HER OWN WEDDING"

For her wedding, Anushka ditched the red and went for a pastel look. She wore pastel-hued outfits which worked perfectly against their wedding decor. She picked a pastel pink Sabyasachi lehenga that had floral embellishments all over it. To match the floral in her lehengha she added flowers to her hairdo as well.

Speaking about the same dreamy pink wedding lehenga Sabyasachi told a popular publication that "Anushka is a Pahari girl, and I think for her side of the family, culture, tradition are very, very important. She wanted to do the works, the jhumkas, the Nath and two dupattas, but she was getting married in Tuscany, so she wanted to be in sync with what the natural surroundings of Tuscany would be."

He further added that "In Tuscany, you would be conspicuous if you were wearing a red lehenga, especially when there is no sun. I knew the wedding would be in winter and there would be little sunlight, so it would be best to keep the colours pale."

The designer informed the magazine that "Anushka is a very understated girl and she did not want the lehenga to be very heavy as she wanted to enjoy her own wedding, so she wanted to able to float around in the lehenga."

Anushka is a very understated girl, she didn’t want the lehnga to be heavy. She said she wanted to enjoy her own wedding, so she wanted to be able to float around in the lehenga. She wanted the lehnga to be understated, without too much of bling. She is unlike many of her Bollywood counterparts. Anushka truly believes less is more.

Mr. Mukherjee said that he followed Anushka's brief and made two swatches for her, out of which she chose one. Anushka Sharma's stylist Alia, Anushka herself and Sabyasachi decided that they would go for a pale pink colour with European flowers on it. Hence, there were little birds, little old French and Italian Riviera florals.

The ace designer said that- "The overall look was supposed to be very quiet and subdued. We teamed it with Sabyasachi jewellery. The jewellery was made of uncut diamonds and it was strung together with tourmaline beads, and with pale pink spinel. So the whole look was tone-on-tone.... We took a month-and-a-half to put the whole wedding wardrobe together."

I GOT A LOT OF FLAK FOR ANUSHKA'S DELHI RECEPTION OUTFIT BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE SAID: "ISS MEIN DESIGNER KYA HAI?"

Post the wedding in Italy the couple hosted a wedding reception back in the capital city. For the Delhi reception, Anushka was seen wearing a traditional red Banarasi saree by Sabyasachi and she paired the saree with heavy gold jewellery.

Speaking of this traditional red saree look, Sabyasachi, told the magazine that- "For her Delhi reception, Anushka wanted to wear a sari and also sindoor. So I generally suggested to her if she would want to wear a red Benarasi. For me, it was a wish fulfilment, because I have seen every Bengali bride getting married in a red Benarasi. Also, a lot of north Indian girls, especially from Uttar Pradesh, they wear a lot of Benarasi saris. What I liked about her was, it was not an inaccessible piece… a lot of middle-class and upper-middle-class girls can also wear a Benarasi sari."

He further added that "What excited me about this is — this is how clothing should be. A lot of people want to go for things which are exclusive, but Anushka was very inclusive. She wanted to wear something that was part of her tradition and I did not give her something that was very designer. I gave her something very traditional and something that a lot of girls can go into the sari shops and buy for themselves."

He also mentioned to the magazine about how Anushka is more of a mainstream girl and he loved how she had the guts to wear mainstream clothes at her own wedding reception.

Explaining to the magazine how he came about conceptualising the Delhi reception look Sabyasachi said that- "I liked the fact that she had a lot of clarity. She wanted to wear sindoor, which was the point from where the whole look started. And then we decided she would wear mogras in her hair, she would wear a red bindi. She wanted to wear jootis, she wanted to wear bangles on her hand."

Speaking of reactions on the wedding reception looks Sabyasachi added that- "I got a lot of flak for Anushka’s Delhi reception outfit because a lot of people said ‘Iss main designer kya hai?’ But the comments made me smile because that is exactly what we wanted to do, we wanted her to be accessible, we did not want her to sit in an ivory tower"

When questioned about which one of the wedding looks is closest to Sabya's heart he said it was the wedding ceremony. He liked the look the most because it made for beautiful pictures but from a socio-political point of view, it was the red Benarasi sari.

"SHE WANTED TO WEAR SOMETHING THAT WAS VERY SIMPLE, SPORTY AND YOUNG"

For the mehendi, Anushka went the boho route and looked vibrant in her floral print raw silk blouse along with a multicoloured orange and pink skirt. Anushka, who otherwise has limp and short hair turned to extensions and styled her hair in a long sleek straight centre part hairstyle.

Explaining this desi boho mehendi look the designer said- "For the Mehendi, she had seen something from our campaign Big Love, where we had done striped blouses with floral lehngas. Here we did a floral blouse with a striped lehnga, we reversed the look for her. She wanted to wear something that was very simple, sporty and young. Her only demand was that she wanted to wear a very bright pink, so we did a pink-and-orange lehenga for her. "

"SHE WANTED ELEGANT AND QUIET FOR HER BOMBAY RECEPTION"

The couple also hosted a reception back in Mumbai which was attended by the who's who of Bollywood and cricketers as well.

For the Mumbai reception, Anushka, once again, wore a Sabyasachi creation. The look this time around was a dull gold heavily embroidered and embellished lehenga set, which was teamed with a matching dupatta, cinched at the waist with a signature Sabyasachi belt. She styled her look with a diamond necklace and traditional red bangles.A nude lip and cascading curls rounded her look out.

Sabyasachi told the magazine that - "For her Bombay reception, she wanted to be glamorous, but again Anushka being Anushka, she wanted it understated. She wanted it elegant and quiet. So there was a lot of bling in it, but because the colour was almost like a mouse brown, almost like a vintage grey, it looked muted. And she wore solitaires with a diamond necklace; she didn’t go all out and wear too much jewellery. She had open hair and she looked young and fresh. And I liked the fact that she held her own while many guests at her reception went over the top. I think when you decide to be yourself for your own wedding, that’s a sign of modernity and class."

"THE REASON BEHIND ANUSHKA'S BRIDAL LOOK BECOMING BIG WAS BECAUSE IT WAS THE PERFECT COMBINATION OF CRICKET, BOLLYWOOD AND A VERY ESTABLISHED BRIDAL BRAND"

Talking about "The Anushka effect" on the brand Sabya, Sabyasachi said that it is very soon to see any change and would take about six to seven months to feel any effect. He additionally explained that the reason behind Anushka's bridal look becoming big was because it was the perfect combination of cricket, Bollywood and a very established bridal brand.

Sabyasachi said that- "I don’t know if Anushka’s wedding will really impact us because I don’t want to be boastful about it, but we are the number one wedding brand of the country. The brand has an iconic following. Probably it just makes existing customers happier to see what we have done with Anushka’s looks"

Well, we think that is quite insightful and one month later we are still drooling over each one of her looks. What do you guys think? Let us know in the comment below.
