Princess Diana is remembered long after she has passed not only by her family, but by the media and fashion industry as well. She was a style and fashion icon who was way ahead of her time and aced all her looks from athleisure to active and gym wear. The Princess is making news again! Her sweater, which she regularly wore to the gym, was auctioned off by her instructor.

The sweater in question, was reportedly a gift from Richard Branson, Virgin Atlantic's founder  who then gifted it to her trainer Jenni Rivett who then put it on auction. The latter won a bid of a whopping USD 53,532 or Rs. 3.5 million from an anonymous collector from California, according to People magazine.

It was known that Princess Diana often wore the jumper to fool the paparazzi who were always following her around to get pictures of her. She wore it repeatedly so that all the pictures of her leaving her gym would look the same and then be considered less valuable and interesting, as she thought there were more important things in the world that needed more attention than she was receiving!

In a note that was with the item, her gym trainer Rivett wrote, "This sweater was given to HRH by Sir Richard Branson. It became her most worn top on her regular visits to the gym. She felt there were far more important issues to focus in the world than her gym attire and therefore decided that wearing the famous Virgin sweatshirt to every session would be a good way to stop the media frenzy!"
