Padmavati Fashion Breakdown: Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor's look
Here is breaking down Rani Padmavati (played by Deepika Padukone), Maha Rawal Ratan Singh (played by Shahid Kapoor) and Alauddin Khilji's (played by Ranveer Singh) look from the movie Padmavati for you
The highly awaited trailer of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati is out and was instantly the talk of the town and gave all of us goosebumps. In the trailer, we are introduced to the three main characters - Rani Padmavati (played by Deepika Padukone), Maharawal Ratan Singh (played by Shahid Kapoor) and the main antagonist obsessed with Rani Padmavati, Alauddin Khilji (played by Ranveer Singh). You can make out from the trailer that the Sanjay Leela Bhansali grandeur touch is added to the movie and how epic this magnum opus is going to be.
While Shahid and Deepika's chemistry and royal avatar will win you over, it is the evil and sadistic avatar of Ranveer that will haunt you and leave chills down your spine. Over and above the amazing cinematography delighting all our visual senses and the stellar performances by the actors, another thinks that stood out were the costumes seen in the movie.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali films always become trendsetters and like his style of direction the costumes too are magnum opus. Padmavati is no different, from heavily embellished kurtas on Shahid to layers and layers f jewellery on Deepika and fabulous fur cats on Ranveer the costumes are magnificent, sumptuous and grand.
The costumes of Padmavati are curated by designer duo Rimple and Harpreet Narula. In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, they had told us that- "Keeping that in mind that there is not much documentation of actual costumes of that era, we have done intensive research on the period by way of going through old travelers' accounts and manuscripts as well as regular visits to the Calico and Jaipur museums to get the touch-feel-look right. Most of the actual samples of antique textiles and costumes from that period are dispersed all over the world in various museums and archives. So, our love for travel and museums also came in handy when we had to collate all the information required during the research process. Even then, actual living samples of such textiles and costumes are far and few in between, so we had to refer to a lot of miniature paintings, murals and frescoes to get the nuances of the styling as close to how they used to be."
Here is a breakdown of the looks seen in the movie:
Deepika is seen wearing heavily embellished sarees with a mix of embroideries and embellishments and varied fabrics. Her outfits include a lot of zardozi work along with gotta patti as well. Fabrics such raw silk, chanderi and mul. The borders of her dupttas have the traditional jhallar work all over them.

As Rani Padmavati, Deepika's characters have Rajput influences to them and she is seen wearing the traditional "Borla Matha Patti Maang Tikka" throughout the movie.

Lots of gold and kundan jewellery is also a part of her look. There is almost no part of her body that is not clad in heavy jewellery. From long earrings, kamar patta, nathni, hand harness to armlets, layered necklaces, bangles and anklets, Deepika is decked from top to bottom.

Pay close attention to the stunning hand harness she is seen wearing in the look! Beautiful isn't it?

It is really interesting to see Deepika wear a septum ring over and above the usual nose ring and nathani.

The pearl, kundan and jadao details carved in the beautiful intricate designs of her jewellery are breathtaking.

Alauddin Khilji aka Ranveer Singh dresses the evil menacing and sadistic part as he is seen wearing a lot of blood ladden clothes like a warrior with fur coats to represent that his clothes are made of fur extracted of all the hunting he has done.

Ranveer is also seen wearing simple chikan Kari kurtas and heavily embellished shawls in darker hues worn over his kurtas.

The regal and grandeur Maha Rawal Ratan Singh aka Shahid Kapoor is seen wearing a lot of Achkan's and Angrakha style kurtas made in silk or brocade fabric. The colour palette of Shahid's look is regal and bold but not dark like Alauddin Khilji. He is seen wearing colours such as saffron, gold, beige, green and ivory.

Of course, Shahid Kapoor too is dressed in a lot of gold and kundan jewellery in forms of Kadhas, necklaces, armbands, rings and jewels for his pagdi.
