The 2019 Met Gala was held in NYC last night and the event was attended by the who's who of the glamour world. There is a reason why the Met Gala is called as the Oscars of fashion. The theme for this year was 'Camp : Notes on Fashion', and was all about self expression, humour, theatricality and exaggeration. Deepika Padukone has been a regular attendee for the past two years and this was her third year in attendance at the prestigious Met Gala.
Deepika's look over the two years have been pretty, but she has been criticised for not following the theme of that particular year. Did she manage to stay true to this year's theme? Umm.. not really. The actress walked the red carpet wearing a custom Zac Posen gown. Her Zac Posen gown was a quintessential Posen gown, which was strapless corset fit top and a layered, architectural skirt with crystals. The pretty pink gown, which gave us total Barbie realness, was styled with a big, bouffant hair do, a dark lip, earrings and a head band.
Firstly, I think kudos to Deepika for attempting something new, which I'm sure is not in her comfort zone. She isn't too risqué with her fashion choices, so to see her do that hair was a welcome change. However, the look just didn't feel camp enough. I understand the Barbie reference, but she could have pushed a little more, maybe through make up, thus introducing an element of humour, exaggeration or theatrics.
Also, interestingly, Dua Lipa had the same hair do at the Met. She wore a look by Versace.
