Golden Globe 2018: Emma Stone's beauty look had a Hidden Feminist Message
All the women at the 75th Golden Globe Awards showed up wearing black thanks to the #TimesUp initiative. Emma Stone was seen wearing one shoulder fitted lace dress by Louis Vuitton. But the interesting part is that her beauty look had a hidden feminist message
The 75th Golden Globe Awards were held in Hollywood and the who's who of Hollywood were in attendance.
Since it's the first big awards event of the year, it kind of sets the tone with its red carpet fashion. However, this year's red carpet was different from its preceding years, thanks to the #TimesUp initiative.
Hollywood has gone through a rough year in 2017 as multiple brave women and men came out and called out the sexual harassment cases involving some of the biggest and powerful men in the industry. As far as fashion was concerned, this year women skipped out on all the glamour and forwent risky designs for looks more muted in tone.
As a step to show their solidarity, the actresses decided to wear black for the #TimesUp campaign. In keeping with that Emma too wore black for the event. Emma Stone was seen wearing one shoulder fitted lace dress by Louis Vuitton. The dress had a scalloped hem and fit her like a glove. She paired the look with a fresh face of makeup and a low bun.

Emma Stone's makeup artist, Rachel Goodwin spoke to a popular beauty portal and said- "The whole sentiment of the night was about everyone coming together in solidarity, coming out against sexual assault, and it was this important message that we knew would be the sentiment of the night," She further added that "Some people decided to hold back with their makeup, but I asked myself, How can I send a message with beauty that was in solidarity with the effort?"

So Goodwin did some research, looking into the Women's Suffrage Movement of the late 1800s/early 1900s. "I found these incredible banners, sashes, pins, and jewellery that women of the Suffragist Movement wore and they all had these three colours — green, purple, white — and those were the Suffragist colours. So I decided to make that my beauty message and to create and design a makeup that had a message of empowerment, so that was where the inspiration came from," said Goodwin.
"Her eyes are green, her lips and cheeks are purple, and there's white on the inside of her eyes and along her brows — and those are the only three colours in the makeup," Goodwin explained.
Goodwin said Stone was equally as excited about the idea. "In their literature, purple was a royal colour that stood for the royal blood that flowed through the veins of every Suffragette, their instinct for freedom and dignity, white stood for purity in public and private life, and green was the colour hope, and that's why they chose those colours. So when I explained it all to her she was so excited about it."
