Indian fashion got a fresh breather when ace designer Masaba Gupta showcased what she had in store for us. Masaba, is the Queen of quirky prints and we all know that. Everyone from Deepika Padukone to Kareena Kapoor Khan to Sonam Kapoor to Alia Bhatt, to name a few, are celebrities who have happily flaunted her designs. The reason why her work and label is so popular amongst the masses is that she sews a beautiful marriage between contemporary quirk and Indian silhouettes. Who would have ever thought of sporting huge bold prints on a saree in a super pop colour? But, the magician here, took the Indian audiences by surprise and won their hearts over.

After having established herself as a trustworthy designer and having taken over Mumbai, Masaba opens her second store in Delhi. In an EXCLUSIVE interview with Pinkvilla, the curly-haired talent spilled the beans on everything that went behind setting up her new store.

We first started out by asking her why she chose the Capital city, to which, she replied, “Delhi is our largest catchment area; we have a store in Ambience mall, Gurugram, but didn't have a presence in New Delhi.  We thought a store in Defence Colony would be more accessible for our clients based in Delhi, and we're planning to open more stores in the near future.”

Since she is the pioneer of bold prints, we asked her how did she do the entire store and what went behind it, “The interiors of the store seamlessly blend contemporary designs with tradition, and its cream and white décor provides a beautiful canvas for the brand’s vibrant prints to stand out. Along with the quirky artefacts in wooden accents, and tone-on-tone ivory interiors, the store is more opulent in its vibe than previous House of Masaba stores, which are quirkier. Keeping in sync with House of Masaba’s design ethos, the store features signature cow motifs that are consistent across all House of Masaba stores. In addition to the clean, minimal look of the store, we tried to stay  true to our offbeat aesthetic with printed wooden knobs, and eccentric gold artefacts such as vintage iron machines, tribal masks, antique fans etc.” The designer also revealed that they had been planning to open a store in Defence Colony for over a year and after getting the perfect place, the entire store was ready in a mere 2 months.

Masaba is one of the few designers who believe in change, so we also asked her if her new store will have a different collection all together. She said, “This is the first House of Masaba store to have a dedicated bridal atelier for the brides to unwind and shop for their wedding trousseau. The brand houses all the latest collections, and will soon launch a capsule collection of Menswear, which will be retailed here exclusively.” When asked on expanding further, she added, “At the moment, we plan to expand within India and in Middle East. We have also planned pop-up's across US and Europe to test waters and to get a better understanding of both markets.”

The young designer also told us that she is super kicked as Masaba X Titan watches will be launching this year. She also gave us some more deets saying that the collection will lean more towards bridal and occasion wear.

To be honest, we are equally kicked Masaba and we cannot wait to see the new collection. What are your thoughts? Comment below and let us know.
