EXCLUSIVE: Cannes 2019: Sonam K Ahuja’s looks were inspired by the royalty, reveals Rhea Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja is all about grace, elegance and style. The beauty who never shies away from experimenting and has always served us some spectacular looks, owns the red carpet in all its right. Sonam has been a reigning queen at the Cannes Film Festival. Her fashion choices are cleverly put together and have always garnered positive response (of course we’ve all been witnessed to that).

The Neerja actress yet again walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival and bowled us all over. Sonam, ditched the ballroom gowns and took the unconventional road and opted for a white pantsuit for her appearance. Kapoor Ahuja donned a Ralph & Russo pantsuit with an attached flowy train. She styled her look with emerald and pearls layered jewels, matching drop earrings, sleek bun, filled in brows and a nude lip.

Pinkvilla got in touch with Rhea Kapoor, Sonam’s baby sister and stylist. Rhea gave us some exclusive details about the look. We first asked her if they work around a particular theme every year for creating the looks. She replied to that saying that the theme this year was royalty and India. She elaborated on 2 of Sonam’s looks and the inspiration behind it too. She said, “The theme was really India & royalty. One of Sonam's looks was inspired by the Raja of Patiala which was her red carpet look and it was the modern rendition of that time of tux and emeralds and the other look was inspired by an old Hollywood actress that kind of took inspiration from a Maharani so it was a mix of old Hollywood and Indian Royalty and I tried to put both the elements in her red carpet looks.”

The powerhouse of talent further elaborated on Sonam’s day looks. “For the day look  it was inspired by classic romance and it was an idea about timeless love and romanticism because that's the place Sonam is in her life and that’s what is inspiring me right now because I feel we need to go back to something which is pure and beautiful,” she said.

We all know that Rhea and Sonam are not just sisters but the ultimate BFFs setting major goals. When we asked how do they tune in their sense of style, the younger sibling replied, “Sonam completely trusts me with the looks that I put together. I run them by her on and off when I'm in the process but she pretty much gives me 100% freedom. Then we do the fittings and whatever she feels comfortable in and makes her look the best is what we go with. But we've been working together for so many years now that we kind of understand each other.”

The extravagant duo have literally changed the face of fashion in India. With every new look we have a new story which is weaved beautifully giving a new dimension to style. What’s really commendable is that they are bridging the gap between Indian style and International designers.
